Key Background :
Nintendo officially launched the much-hyped Switch 2 console, which redefines both handheld and hybrid gaming. The console offers a sequence of substantial upgrades over its predecessor, the original Nintendo Switch, growing more powerful, more convenient to use, and forward-looking.
At the heart of the new console is an Nvidia Tegra T239 processor, tuned to significantly boost processing power and graphics capability. That comes with 12GB of LPDDR5X memory and 256GB of built-in storage, so that there is more room and faster speeds for saving games, updating, and save data. For those with special needs for additional storage space, the Switch 2 also supports the faster microSD Express format, giving fast data access.
One of the standout features is its 7.9-inch LCD screen, now featuring full HD 1080p resolution and HDR10. The screen also has a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz for smoother visuals in supported games. This improves handheld gaming experience and makes it more immersive and vibrant.
The Joy-Con controllers have also been redesigned. They now magnetically attach rather than resting on rails and have wider and more durable analog sticks. They are also usable as a computer mouse in certain titles, adding another layer of gameplay accuracy and convenience.
Nintendo has retained most of the existing Switch games backward compatible, meaning that players won’t be abandoning their current library. Some games, however, will experience performance issues or require patches to run optimal on the new console.
The Switch 2 is priced at $449.99 for the base edition. A bundle deal, including the console and a copy of the newly-released “Mario Kart World,” is priced at $499.99. While the console has been released in countries across the globe, India hasn’t seen an official release yet. And yet, the product already hit the grey market, with Delhi stores reportedly selling it for nearly ₹61,000 — without warranty or official assistance.
Nintendo. It is forecasting over 15 million units in sales through March 2026, counting on solid demand across the globe and a fresh slate of first-party titles to drive them.
